A Bit About Barb
Barbara is a dynamic speaker, an award-winning Toastmaster, adulting, instructor and public speaker, she has a passion for learning and teaching. Barbara has the innate ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Barbara skillfully inspires and supports individuals as they work towards meeting goals and improving their adulting skills.
In addition to empowering individuals with skills in the area of job development, personal growth and consumer skills. Barbara is passionate about financial education, nutrition, social and, environmental justice.
Barbara has a bachelors degree in Consumer Science with a focus on Nutrition and Child Development from Chicago State University, a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Alaska Anchorage, additional hours in Teaching the Adult Learner from Alaska Pacific University, she is also a certified Love and Logic Parenting Instructor.
Barbara has worked with private and non-profit organizations including:
Shiloh Community Housing Inc. as the Life at Work program’s Workforce Development Trainer, Nine Star Education and Employment Agency, Anchorage School District and Alaska Housing Finance Corporation where she taught financial literacy for several years.
While employed at Nine Star, she developed and taught a Life Skills program called Empowered Living, taught GED classes, and was the program director for the Karluk Manor Apartments after school program.
Barbara serves her community by being involved in organizations that promote social and environmental justices she has served as president and Alaska representative for Church Women United (CWU), an elder in her faith community and, she is active with the Interfaith Council of Anchorage, an ecumenical group that promotes social justice and, interaction between the many faith paths and cultural groups in Anchorage.
Barbara’s goal is to be an effective and positive influence in her community through education and service.
